The Boston Red Sox on Wednesday promoted bullpen coach Dana LeVangie to pitching coach.

This comes just two days after Alex Cora was formally named manager.

“When everybody started talking about me being manager, he was a guy that I always considered was going to be part of my staff,” Cora said to ESPN.

LeVangie has worked with Red Sox organization in someway or another for the past 26 years. Some of his duties included catching in the minors, and catching in the bullpen. His long-lasting tenure is sure to give him major respect in the dugout from everyone.

For the past five years, he has been serving as the bullpen coach and assisting in advanced scouting. He is going to continue with the assistance while taking on this new job from his successor, Carl Willis.

While under the guidance of the Whitman native in 2017, the Sox bullpen flashed a 3.15 earned run average. The second lowest in the majors.

“This is something I didn’t envision myself doing,” LeVangie said. “But I think my experience throughout the game, experience dealing with the players has grown throughout my time.”
