The boys in big D are looking to return to post-season form during an important stretch of the season. Following an overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings, the Dallas Stars will attempt to build on that momentum going forward. This season has been an up and down ride for Dallas, as they currently sit at the fifth position in the Central Division. Ahead of them lie the offensive powerhouse Colorado Avalanche and the always competitive St. Louis Blues. For this organization to make a serious run at the post-season, more production out of popular names will be required. Nevertheless, this central division is sure to provide some entertaining hockey down the stretch of the regular season.

Dallas Stars vs. Montreal Canadiens

Although the Stars stacked 51 shots on net, they fell short to the Canadiens on Tuesday by a score of 5-3. Missed opportunities from Roope Hintz and Michael Raffl proved to be lethal as the Stars could never gain momentum. Head coach Rick Bowness, who was seen breaking a stick on the bench last week, aired his frustrations. “The mistakes we made ended up in the back of our next because just bad puck management, it’s as simple as that”. Bowness told reporters. “They capitalized on every chance they had and we didn’t. It could have been 7-5 very easily.” Safe to say, a conversation on missed opportunities was had with the players.
Dallas Stars at Buffalo Sabres

After missing two games, Jason Robertson entered the lineup Thursday and didn’t miss a step. The 22-year old picked up right where he left off, taking on the role of the centerpiece in this Stars offense. Scoring two goals, including the go-ahead marker in the third, Robertson had his fingerprints all over this game. Tyler Seguin also shined in this outing. Scoring two goals himself, Seguin put on a vintage performance, reminding Stars faithful what he’s capable of. This ended Dallas’ road game losing streak of seven and delivered Buffalo their ninth home loss in a row.
Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings

On Friday, the Stars took on the Redwings in their second game of a back-to-back. Hours after a big win in Buffalo, the Stars were looking to build on the momentum. Dallas’ defenseman stepped up, as goals from both Ryan Suter and Esa Lindell helped propel Dallas to their second win in a row. Joe Pavelski also made his presence known, as he notched the game-winning assist to Hintz in the crease. Robertson also joined the party, marking a goal and an assist in the score column. This coming 24 hours after his three-point performance in Buffalo. At this point in the year, big wins are huge for any club wanting to make the post-season. Hopefully, Dallas can ride this momentum into the spring.
Looking Forward
The last half of the NHL season may be the most brutal portion. Most teams are likely to lose more players to Covid and injury before the playoffs. If the Stars can remain healthy and stay off of Covid protocol, their chances at post-season success will rise accordingly. The recent reemergence of Seguin has been a heartwarming sight for Stars fans. If players like Seguin and Pavelski can keep up their production, the oldest NHL team could make it interesting. Dallas may struggle to match the level of competition in this central division down the line. The team is not as healthy and spry as they once were, but post-season hockey brings unpredictable outcomes. If the Stars can get hot at the right time, who’s to say they can’t have another run at the cup?
