Dallas Mavericks Trade Targets

Dallas Mavericks Trade Targets: Buddy Hield

The Dallas Mavericks have been underperforming this season compared to expectations for the team. As the NBA approaches the trade deadline, the Mavericks will likely need to pursue another star or add more pieces to surround Luka Doncic in order to make a playoff push. Let’s take a look at three potential trade targets for the Mavericks.

Buddy Hield

The Sacramento Kings have been performing poorly after a hot start to the season. De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton have both been stellar this year and although Hield has played well, he is the oldest of the three, leaving him as the odd man out. The Kings could look to move the former number-six pick prior to the deadline and the Mavericks would be a great fit. The biggest strength of the Mavericks is shooting the three-ball. Hield is an elite three-point shooter who is hitting at 37.8 percent this season. He would be able to make a big impact starting, or coming off the bench on day one for the Mavericks and take some pressure off of Luka Doncic.

Andre Drummond

One of the biggest weaknesses of the Mavericks is their defense. They are 25th in the NBA in opponent points per game allowed. Although Drummond is not the most impactful player on the floor, he is able to play solid defense and would help the Mavericks in the paint. This season, Drummond is averaging 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks while grabbing 13.5 rebounds per game. One barrier in a potential Drummond trade would be his contract as he is currently being paid upwards of 28 million dollars this season. The Mavericks will likely only be able to pursue Drummond if he is bought out, but if the Mavericks acquire him, he would be able to make a big impact on the defensive side of the ball.

Richaun Holmes

Unlike Drummond, Holmes has a much friendlier deal which would allow for him to be traded much more easily. Holmes is another player who can help the Mavericks on the defensive end of the floor. Since the Kings are rebuilding, they will likely be open to trading him. Holmes is a talented paint defender who is currently averaging 1.5 blocks per game as the starting center. Bringing him in would help the Mavericks tremendously under the basket.
