Cowboys Notes: Maher Released; Prescott, Vander Esch, Pollard Injury News; Dez Bryant Rumors; Hot Boyz Missing

We have a lot to unpack regarding the Cowboys.

Brett Maher

The Dallas Cowboys’ record-setting kicker, Brett Maher, has been released. The team signed veteran kicker Kai Forbath, who recently played one game with the New England Patriots, with whom he made one field goal and went 1-for-2 on extra points.

Dak Prescott

Quarterback Dak Prescott sustained injuries on both hands in the game against the Chicago Bears. Prescott sprained his left hand on an unknown play and injured his right index finger after hitting a helmet on his follow-through after a pass attempt. Neither injury is serious and he is expected to play Dec. 15 against the Los Angeles Rams at home in Arlington. Prescott has never missed a game in 61 chances during four NFL seasons.  Prescott leads the league in pass attempted, passes completed, and passing yards. Those stats do not always lead to wins; that is a different story.

Leighton Vander Esch

Linebacker Vader Esch’s neck stinger injury is an alarming concern Jason Garrett stated that he is “day by day, week by week.” He continued by saying, “We’re going to do right by Leighton Vander Esch. He’s not going to rush back and we’re not going to rush him back, but obviously he’s chomping at the bit to play.” Garrett stated a few weeks ago that the Cowboys didn’t think the injury was career-ending. That shows a ton of red flags. At Boise State, he missed half of the season with a pinched nerve. Continue to watch this closely.

Tony Pollard

Back-up running back Tony Pollard has a nagging ankle injury but is expected to return soon. While Pollard only has 264 rushing yards, he provides a spark in the backfield when Ezekiel Elliott needs a break.

Dez Bryant

Ex-Cowboy Dez Bryant is making comeback noise again.

Cowboys fans were asking themselves if he meant returning to the Cowboys as a role player. However, as long as Jason Garrett is coaching, Dez will never be a Cowboy.

It’s been over a month now and no one has signed Dez Bryant. He responded to a recent tweet when someone asked if he was going to sign with the Patriots by replying, “maybe, lol.” Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders added further speculation by stating that the New England Patriots would be getting some receiver help in the next couple weeks.  There will be more to follow, I’m sure, but I could see Bryant coming back soon to a playoff contender.

“Hot Boyz”

Where are “The Hot Boyz?” You can find plenty of these t-shirts and chains for sale, but good luck finding anything related on the football field. While linebacker Jaylon Smith actually ranks third in tackles for the league with 120 tackles, it’s a muted point.  Defensive ends Robert Quinn, Demarcus Lawrence and Super Bowl Champion Michael Bennett are simply missing in action. They have followed the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, in how to market themselves for a profit; it’s frustrating to Cowboy fans world-wide.

Only a few months ago, the Cowboys were Super Bowl favorites, but they now find themselves in a devastating 6-7 record with all types of woes in the season. From fans begging for the head coach to be fired to Jerry Jones Super Bowl fairy tales, this promising season will be oblivious.
