Cincinnati Bengals: Meet New Coach Zac Taylor

Although it was known weeks before the Super Bowl, the Bengals’ hiring of Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor to be their new head coach could not be made official until Los Angeles was out of contention.

Nearly 12 hours after the conclusion of the Super Bowl, the Bengals made it official.

Taylor stated in his initial statement, “I am happy and fortunate to join the Cincinnati Bengals as head coach, This is a great organization with good people and a rich history, and I am excited to get started. I am looking to add to that history by setting high standards, and holding everyone here accountable to those standards. There is a lot of work to do, and this is day one. We’re going to attack every day with enthusiasm to get this team ready to go.”

Taylor started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M for three years.

Then, in 2012, he was hired by the Miami Dolphins as an assistant quarterbacks coach. Then next year, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach and held that position until 2015.

In 2016, Taylor went back to the collegiate ranks as offensive coordinator for the University of Cincinnati.

In 2017, Taylor was pulled back into the NFL by Sean McVay and served as a wide receivers and quarterbacks coach.

Taylor has already announced that he will be calling the plays for this upcoming season. This will be a first for him, as he has never previously called plays in the NFL before. This may be a lot to ask of a first-year head coach, to call plays with no play calling experience at the NFL ranks.

However, Taylor has proven he can be successful in whatever role he is in, so assuming he hires a strong coaching staff, it shouldn’t be too much of a worry.
