Celtics Notebook: Rough Midseason Stretch

The Celtics fell 89-80 on Thursday to the Philadelphia 76ers. Kyrie Irving missed the game due to an injury, and Al Horford lead the way for Boston with 14 points.  Joel Embiid had 26 points and 16 rebounds for the 76ers.

On Sunday, the Orlando Magic came into Boston and handed the Celtics their second straight loss, 103-95 despite 40 points from Irving in his return to the lineup.  Elfrid Payton led Orlando with 22 points.

A western road trip began on Tuesday with a 108-107 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.  Irving had 33 points for Boston while Kyle Kuzma had 28 points for the Lakers. Marcus Smart missed a controversial last-second three-pointer to hand the Celtics the loss, despite only trailing by one point.

The Celtics finally ended their four-game losing streak against the Clippers on Wednesday, 113-102.  20 points from Irving and 18 points from Jayson Tatum lead the effort for Boston, while Blake Griffin poured in 23 points for the Clippers.

Celtics sign Jarell Eddie to 10-day contract

The Celtics signed third-year forward Jarell Eddie to a 10-day contract.  Eddie has played for the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns.  This season with the Windy City Bulls, he is averaging 17.2 points (49.5% FG, 50.7% 3-PT, 94.7% FT), 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Gordon Hayward begins stand-still shooting

Hayward has continued his rehabilitation process after suffering an ankle injury on opening night.  He has begun stand-still shooting, according to a video on his wife’s Instagram account.
