Celtics Notebook: Injury Bug Hits Hard

The Celtics topped the Timberwolves in Minnesota 117-109 thanks to 23 points from Kyrie Irving. Nemanja Bjelica poured in 30 for Minnesota in the loss.

The Celtics lost 99-97 to the Pacers in their return home. Without Irving in the second half, Boston was led by Marcus Smart with 20 points. Victor Oladipo had 27 points for Indiana.

Boston fell to the Wizards on Wednesday 125-124 in double overtime. Marcus Morris poured in 31 points, but it wasn’t enough to match Bradley Beal’s 34 points in Washington’s one-point win.

Celtics face Wizards without six players

The Celtics (or at least some of them) hit the floor in Boston Wednesday night against the Wizards. Among those unable to play were Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Daniel Theis and Al Horford. That’s on top of not having Gordon Hayward who has been out since opening day. This forced Brad Stevens to put Guerschon Yabusele in the lineup for his first NBA start, along with Terry Rozier, Aron Baynes, Marcus Morris and Jayson Tatum.

Theis likely to miss rest of season

Celtics forward Daniel Theis is likely out for the rest of the season after tearing his left meniscus. He suffered the injury after a knee-to-knee collision at the end of the team’s game against the Pacers. Theis has been important down low for Boston, and his minutes will surely be missed.

“It’s too bad,” coach Brad Stevens said. He’s had an incredible rookie year.”
