CBB AP Poll Reaction: Week 8

College Basketball
Advertisement

The eighth week of college basketball saw a short little break for the holidays and not too much excitement overall. There were still some solid upsets, and they seem to be the case every week nowadays. However, the majority of the bowl has remained the same and the voters did do pretty well for the second week in a row. Now, we turn to another week where the action is, in fact, supposed to pick up a little, as the holidays are over.

Tennesee Deserves Better

Tennesee has two losses on the season but they’ve been one of the hottest teams in the country as of late. In those losses, the Vols’ just shot really poorly, and they were open shots too that simply didn’t fall. With the win against Arizona last week, Tennessee has shown us what they can do at their best and that is a top 10-12 team.

Tough Week for the Unranked Hopefuls

Any team that was unranked coming into last week stayed unranked. Yes, there were the upsets at the top but the teams at the back of the pack held their ground as well and did enough to stay in it. Right now, these rankings are incredibly crowded. There are probably 30 teams in the country worthy of these 25 spots, only time will tell when they will get in.

Big 12 will Play Themselves Out of Top Spots

The Big 12 now has three teams in the top 10. While they’ve looked great in the non-conference, it’ll be very difficult for them to hold the cards in the rankings once all these teams face off with each other. It’s not just Baylor, Kansas, and Iowa State as well. Texas has put together a very nice season thus far and Texas Tech has secured some upsets. Other schools like Oklahoma will be dangerous throughout conference play and it will be fun to see how it all turns out.
