The Washington Capitals find themselves in a very uncomfortable spot headed to the All-Star break and a “bye” week break respectively. The Capitals have lost seven straight games. The defending Stanley Cup champions don’t remember such a losing skid. Five years ago was the last time that they endured such a string of consecutive loses.

The Boston Bruins rolled the dice on a prospect who has had a fair share of ups and downs at the NHL level in his career thus far.
However this go-around, Peter Cehlarik has finally tapped into his potential that has kept the Bruins intrigued with him for years. Even though it’s only been three games, the 23-year-old from Slovakia has contributed two goals and dished out an assist thus far.

Following last night’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings, the Edmonton Oilers have fired GM Peter Chiarelli.
Chiarelli has been Edmonton’s GM since April 2015 but now follows coach Todd McLellan out the door. Chiarelli and McLellan were supposed to usher in a new era for the Oilers combined with Connor McDavid, but both tenures are over after just three-plus years. Chiarelli was hired after being fired as the GM of the Boston Bruins following a nine-year stint.

The Minnesota Wild had a rough night Thursday. Firstly, the Wild traded away forward Nino Niederreiter and afterward lost a game against the Anaheim Ducks, who finally broke their 12-game losing streak. Minnesota seemed to disappoint with moving Niederreiter and then got booed after not scoring a single goal in a loss against the Ducks.

The NHL has decided that they will not be having a World Cup of Hockey for 2020. The official statement was released yesterday afternoon.

The Sharks in the new season needed to put a few things together and it finally seems like San Jose is hitting its stride. Currently, the Sharks find themselves on a 7-game winning streak after taking down one of the hottest team in the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

We have the first big deal of this calendar year. Yesterday, the Anaheim Ducks, currently on an 11-game losing skid, swapped forwards with the Dallas Stars. Andrew Cogliano is headed to Dallas and Devin Shore has headed the other direction to California. The deal is a one-for-one (sorry if you are an Oilers fan reading this and we brought you bad memories with that quote).
Not everything has been positive for Patrik Laine in his third season with the Winnipeg Jets. Laine was selected as the second pick overall in the 2016 NHL Draft and has been one of the main stars in the League even though he is still just 20 years old. But this season, it is not a smooth one so far for the Finnish killer.

The trade deadline is fast approaching for the NHL and teams will be looking to stockpile draft picks or make waves to put themselves over the hump for a potential run in June. Here we take a look at the teams vying for playoff positioning, teams who are looking to rebuild, and what they all should do at the NHL trade deadline.

On Friday afternoon the Blackhawks sent Jan Rutta to the Lightning in exchange for Slater Koekkoek.

15-year veteran Rick Nash has retired following concerns over concussion issues. Nash was drafted first overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
