The NBA Draft is coming up. A new set of NBA players are going to be selected which will alter their lives forever. Some of these players are going to fit in right away and be All-Stars down the line. Others won’t be playing enough minutes to make an impact though.
Once the Houston Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers, the team made some serious front office moves. Daryl Morey, longtime general manager for the Rockets stepped down from his position and is now in Philadelphia. He was the one who brought former MVP James Harden from Oklahoma City to Houston.
“If there’s a next thing that can take us to another level, I’m open to it”, Pat Riley said during his press conference last Friday. After reaching the NBA Finals this year, the Miami Heat are still looking to add another star. Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo remains the team’s number one target. The next one on the list is Bradley Beal. For the past two years, Miami has tried to acquire Beal from the Washington Wizards but failed.
The Los Angeles Clippers disappointing season is officially in the past. Doc Rivers is out, with Ty Lue taking over as the team’s head coach. More changes are coming, as the Clippers need to show Kawhi Leonard he does not need to entertain free agency next offseason.
Houston we have a new coach. The Houston Rockets are hiring Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas to be their next head coach.
News broke early Tuesday that Daryl Morey and the 76ers are in agreement on a deal to make Morey the head of the team’s Basketball Operations.
The Boston Celtics have two of the brightest stars that are under the age of 25 in the NBA. Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been spectacular since joining the league in 2017 and 2016, respectively. Going into this year’s draft, the Celtics yet again have multiple first round picks.
Even though the Miami Heat had a great postseason, there will always be the “what if” questions surrounding the championship series. What if Goran Dragic didn’t miss multiple games with the foot injury? What if Bam Adebayo didn’t have the neck strain? These are the thoughts every Heat fan thinks about every day. Even Heat President Pat Riley wonders what could’ve happened in the 2020 NBA Finals.
The Charlotte Hornets cannot afford another draft-day meltdown. Their management has whiffed on franchise-altering decisions time after time with the likes of Adam Morrison, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Noah Vonleh, and Frank Kaminsky.
