The Detroit Pistons went into the 2020-2021 NBA season with little expectations after winning only 20 games in the 2019-20 NBA season. Blake Griffin only played in 20 games before both sides agreed on a buyout agreement.
For the 15th season in a row, the Sacramento Kings failed to reach the playoffs, tying the Los Angeles Clippers for the longest NBA playoff drought. While they look to be headed to a 16th straight year, the Kings have promise and can see their bright future start to come to fruition in 2021.
The Houston Rockets spent the 2020-21 NBA season beginning their rebuild. They moved on from head coach Mike D’antoni, general manager Daryl Morey stepped down and franchise cornerstone James Harden was traded.
The Toronto Raptors missed the playoffs for the first time in seven years last season. They dealt with injuries to key players throughout the season and could never find their rhythm.
The Oklahoma City Thunder were terrible in the second half of last year and their fans can expect a full season of it this year.
The Cleveland Cavaliers missed the playoffs for their third straight season. In the 2020-2021 NBA season, the Cavaliers finished the season with a 22-50 record for 13th in the eastern conference.
The Dallas Mavericks came oh-so-close to advancing to the Western Conference semifinals but were once again turned away by the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Memphis Grizzlies finished last season with a 38-34 record, landing them in the newly added play-in tournament. This year, the team is looking to stay healthy with their main core and make another run for the playoffs.
Last season was a season of change for the Indiana Pacers. After firing head coach Nate McMillan, the Pacers hired Nate Bjorkgren to change up the team’s identity.
The San Antonio Spurs finished the previous season with a 33-39 record which was good enough for them to reach the play-in tournament. In the play-in tournament, they would lose a close game to the Memphis Grizzlies, being eliminated from the postseason in the process.
In the 2020-2021 NBA season, the New Orleans Pelicans finished the season with a 31-41 record for 11th in the Western Conference. Former No. 1 pick, Zion Williamson led the Pelicans and was named a first-time all-star.
