Bruins Sign Pair of Netminders

The Boston Bruins have signed backup goaltenders Malcolm Subban and Zane McIntyre, the club announced Friday. Both deals are worth $650,000 and are good through the 2018-2019 season.

Tuukka Rask is undeniably the team’s starting goaltender, but these signings give the Boston some solid depth at goal tender.

Malcolm Subban has been with the Bruins since the 2014-2015 season, but has only started two games for the black and gold. He allowed three goals in both of those games.

Subban is still a young player and the Bruins hope that a couple more years of development will lead to better results from the young net minder.

Zane McIntyre has only one NHL season under his belt and it yielded mixed results. He struggled mightily early on in the 2016-2017 season, but he rebounded with a strong second half performance.

Resigning the two young goalies makes the future of Anton Khudobin uncertain. Khudobin backed up Tuukka Rask during the 2016-2017 season. While his play improved over the course of the season, his play also left a lot to be desired. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2017-2018 season.

What do you think Bruins fans? Are Subban and McIntyre understudies to replace Rask or just depth for the next two years?
