Bruins Rookie Shines in NHL Debut

Rookie winger Ryan Donato made his NHL debut in the Bruins 5-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and it was a night to remember.

Donato scored a fantastic goal in the second period and had three total points on the evening.

The young left winger was a superstar in his three seasons at Harvard, but on Sunday night he elected to join the Bruins for their late-season push.

Donato recently played at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang where his five goals were tied for most among all 2018 Olympians.

He was originally drafted by the Bruins in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He recently signed a two-year entry-level contract for Boston and looks to add to the already loaded rookie class.

Donato’s strong outing is very encouraging for the Bruins who are in desperate need of some depth production with the injuries to the likes Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and David Backes.

An additional depth scorer could help the Bruins turn the tide in the race for the Atlantic Division crown.

He may only be one game into his career, but it looks like the Bruins have another dangerous rookie on their hands.

Five players cracked the 30-point barrier, and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored an eye-popping 50 points.
