Bruins Midseason MVPs

There is a lot of love to go around on this Bruins roster, but they’ve still had standout performers that put the team over the top.

The Bruins have gotten some solid performances so far, but these guys have been the best on the team.

Forward MVP: Brad Marchand

Runner-Up: David Pastrnak

This one is a no-brainer, Brad Marchand is the best player on the team and has once again been named to the All-Star Game roster.

He leads the team with 41 points and has shown he can take over a game with his fellow top-line partners Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak.

Speaking of Pastrnak, the 21-year-old is picking up where he left off in his breakout season with 17 goals and 22 assists.

Pastrnak has found a place alongside Marchand and Bergeron on the first line and the three have become a force to be reckoned with.

Defensive MVP: Zdeno Chara

Runner-Up: Charlie McAvoy

The 40-year-old Zdeno Chara continues to play at an elite level and anchor the Bruins blue line.

He is +21 on the ice thanks to his stellar defensive play and has 12 points.

Meanwhile, Rookie Charlie McAvoy has been everything he was hyped to be and more. More on him later though.

Goalie: Tuukka Rask

Runner-Up: Anton Khudobin

No surprises here, Rask is the best goalie on the roster and can still play at an elite level when it matters.

He had a rough patch in November, but has since managed to turn things around.

Anton Khudobin meanwhile has finally given the Bruins a serviceable backup, something they sorely lacked last year.

Khudobin can hold down the fort for a game when need be and even had himself a solid hot streak back in November.

Rookie MVP: Charlie McAvoy

Runner-Up: Danton Heinen

Fans hoped McAvoy would be able to work his way up to the second wave of defenseman, but he now finds himself starting alongside Zdeno Chara on the top line.

The rookie is holding his own against the league’s top forwards and is getting involved on offense as well with 24 points so far this year.

Meanwhile, Danton Heinen has been the best offensive rookie on the roster.

Anders Bjork and Jake DeBrusk got all of the hype heading into the season, but Heinen and his 31 points have been the pleasant surprise of the year so far.

NBA All-Star Game

Do We Really Need All-Star Games Anymore?

It is safe to say last weekend’s event re-ignited the long-running criticisms of the NBA All-Star Game, which has historically been an event where most will only play at about half of their usual intensity to let their fellow players shine. Five players cracked the 30-point barrier, and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored an eye-popping 50 points.

  1. Right now Khudobin is Seventh Player Award material for his early performances while Rask was struggling and continued strong play.
