On Wednesday, the Boston Bruins announced that the team has signed head coach Bruce Cassidy to a multi-year contract extension.
Cassidy has a 117-52-22 record in 191 career games in Boston. In his first full season, he led the Bruins to a 50-20-12 record which was good for second place in the Eastern Conference and fourth-best record in the National Hockey League. In his second full season behind the bench, Cassidy led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2013.
When Cassidy established full-time coaching responsibilities on Feb. 8, 2018, the Bruins went on to be ranked first in the NHL in goals per game (3.37), first in the NHL in fewest shots allowed (741), tied for second in the NHL in wins (18), tied for second in in the NHL in power play percentage (27.8%), tied for third in the NHL for goals allowed per game (2.30), tied for fifth in the NHL in face-off percentage (53.6%), and tied for sixth in the NHL in takeaways (229).
