The Bruins (44-30-6) are headed to the postseason after a stellar 4-0 performance against Tampa Bay (39-30-10), their sixth victory in a row. This marks the first season since 2014 that the boys in black and gold have made it to the playoffs.

Tuukka Rask notched his eighth shutout of the year and collected 28 saves, including one spectacular pad block on a shot by Lightning defenseman Luke Witkowski.

Zdeno Chara, Drew Stafford, and David Pastrnak all scored, with Pastrnak picking up another goal, his 34th, with an empty-net score in the third period. Chara’s goal came on a power play.

With 40 seconds left in the first period, Brad Marchand got in trouble for spearing defenseman Jake Dotchin in his genitals. He picked up a five-minute trip to the penalty box and now faces a possible suspension for the move, which would be the fifth in his career.

The Lightning, who are still without star center Steven Stamkos, had won 5 of their last 6 games.

If the playoffs began today, the Bruins would face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of action.

On Thursday night the Bruins take on the Ottawa Senators at home and then host the Washington Capitals in the final game of the regular season.
