Bruins Down 3 Key Pieces for Opener

The Boston Bruins will be without three key players in their season opener as Torey Krug, David Backes, and Patrice Bergeron have all been ruled out.

Torey Krug suffered a fractured jaw in the pre season and will miss at least a couple games.

Krug is coming off an up and down year we he set a career high in points (51) but a career low in plus minus (-10).

He has only missed two total regular season games over the last two seasons. The Bruins placed him on IR just before the start of the season.

In his place Matt Grzelcyk made the Bruins roster and will likely remain there until Krug returns.

Patrice Bergeron is battling what is being called a “lower body injury” which held him out of Wednesday’s practice.

Bergeron is currently “day to day” and with a three day break coming up, holding him out is the smart decision.

Bergeron has missed only eight regular season games over the last four seasons.

Backes, who scored 17 goals last season, is battling an unknown illness and has been unable to practice recently.

Both Bergeron and Backes’ injuries/ailments are considered minor and barring and unforeseen developments, shouldn’t hold them out for very long.

We will have to wait to see how the Bruins forward lines are going to pair up this season as these injuries are likely going to lead Cassidy to experiment with line combinations tonight.
