Bruins Center Eligible for Arbitration

News broke out Thursday that Ryan Spooner is declining the qualifying offer of $1.1 million and his heading for arbitration.

Last campaign was a bit of a down fall for the 25-year-old center who saw his production drop to 11 goals and a total of 39 points in 78 games. As of not, there is no info as to how much Spooner is looking for as payday.

Arbitration hearings are scheduled to start on July 20, however it is rare that parties can’t agree on a common ground.

Spooner could be looking into the $2-3 million range which would be spot on for his production so far. A perfect example would be Oscar Lindberg of the New York Rangers who signed a two-year, $3.4 million contract. Along those same lines, Kevin Hayes signed a two-year $5.2 million deal last year with the Rangers after having a campaign of 36 points.

The Bruins could do a sign and trade as a package with a prospect for a winger or a left-shot defenseman.

Spooner has been criticized on the weekly with his offensive play as well as the lack of defensive on puck play. Spooner has also been criticized by both Claude Julien and Bruce Cassidy.

The best option might be to trade Spooner for a draft pick next year and let the kids play.
