The Boston Bruins acquired New York Rangers forward Rick Nash in exchange for the Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Ryan Lindgren, a 2018 first round pick, and a 2019 seventh-round pick.
The Bruins will retain 50 percent of Beleskey’s contract in the deal, while the Rangers will retain 50 percent of Nash’s deal.
Nash is in the final season of an eight-year contract and has 18 goals and 10 assists in 60 games this season. The winger has 799 points in 1,049 games with the Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Selected first overall in the 2002 NHL draft, the 6-foot-4 power forward has 41 points in 77 career playoffs and will look to help Boston reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2013.
Spooner, who has 25 points in 39 games this year, is in the final year of his contract as well and will become a restricted free agent in July. The Bruins drafted the winger in the second round of the 2010 NHL draft and the Ottawa native departs Boston with 142 points in 253 games.
Beleskey is in the third year of his five-year contract and spent the majority of the 2017-18 season in the AHL. The winger never really caught on in Boston, scoring only 45 points in 143 games.
Ryan Lindgren never featured for the Bruins and plays for his college team—the University of Minnesota. He was drafted by Boston in the second round of 2016 NHL draft.
Nash will join the team in Buffalo and will be available for tonight’s game.
