The NHL released that Bruins 2018-2019 regular season schedule a while ago, but we now know when we’ll see the black and gold on national TV.
Boston will feature in 14 of the 109 total NHL games that will take place across NBC networks. Here are all the game where the Boston Bruins will play hockey in front of a nationally televised audience.
Oct. 3, 2018 @ Washington Capitals
The Bruins open the 2018-2019 regular season against the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
Alex Ovechkin and company will provide a solid test for Boston to kick off the NHL season. This marks the second consecutive year that the Bruins will open vs. a reigning conference champion.
Oct. 17, 2018 @ Calgary Flames
A Bruins-Flames matchup might not be the most exciting thing in the world on paper, it’s still early enough in the season to make every matchup competitive and meaningful.
This game will mark the first time the Bruins travel to Canada during the 2018-2019 season and is the first of a four game road trip up north. This also marks the last nationally televised game the Bruins will play in the 2018 calendar year.
Jan. 1, 2019 @ Chicago Blackhawks
The first of the Bruins’ two NBC games against the Chicago Blackhawks will be on new year’s day.
Fans will be able to kickoff 2019 by watching two original six foes go head to head on nation television. The Blackhawks had a down year in 2017-2018, but look to rebound with strong years from Patrick Kane and Jonathon Toews. To add to the excitement, the game will be part of the 2019 winter classic and thus will be played outdoors at Notre Dame stadium.
Jan. 14, 2019 vs Montreal Canadiens
What’s the best rivalry in the National Hockey League? This writer would argue that the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens bring out the most fireworks of any NHL matchup.
Boston will face off against its arch rivals in mid January and NBC crews will be there to broadcast the affair. After coming off an Atlantic Division title in 2016-2017, the Canadiens collapsed in 2017-2018 and failed to reach the postseason.
Jan. 16, 2019 @ Philadelphia Flyers
The Bruins will follow their national game against the Canadiens by immediately playing on NBC once again.
This time they will travel to Philadelphia to face off against the strong young core of the Flyers. Philadelphia broke through to the playoffs last year before being eliminated in six games by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In free agency, the Flyers reunited with James Van Riemsdyk and hope they can take the next step and win a playoff series.
Feb. 3, 2019 @ Washington Capitals
The Bruins will have a second NBC game against the defending Stanley Cup Champions and it will once again take place in Washington.
Feb. 6, 2019 @ New York Rangers
The Rangers might be in the midst of a rebuild, but that doesn’t make a Boston vs. New York showdown any less fun. These two teams made multiple trades at last season’s deadline, but neither Nick Holden or seemingly Rick Nash will be there to play against their former team.
Feb. 12, 2019 vs Chicago Blackhawks
The Bruins will play a second national game against the Chicago Blackhawks in mid February. This time the two teams will meet at TD Garden.
Feb. 18, 2019 @ San Jose Sharks
The Bruins will play two nationally broadcast games during their annual west coast road trip this year.
The first of which will be against the new look San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have been annual playoff threats, but trading for Evander Kane at the trade deadline last completely changed the direction of the organization. A team once accused of becoming too old and slow instantly got a lot faster and all of a sudden their championship window was extended for an extra couple years. Boston will have its hands full.
Feb. 20, 2019 @ Las Vegas Golden Knights
Two days after taking on the Sharks, the Bruins travel to the defending Western Conference Champion Las Vegas Golden Knights.
After a shocking inaugural season that saw the expansion franchise go all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, the Golden Knights will have a major target on their head in year two. They did, however, add Paul Stastny to their already loaded roster and could be just as good if not better than last year.
Feb. 28, vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Boston ends February with a rematch against the team that eliminated them from the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Lightning will be just as dangerous as they were in 2017-2018 and should make the race for the Atlantic Division and exciting one.
Mar. 10, 2019 @ Pittsburgh Penguins
They may not be the reigning Champions anymore, but that doesn’t mean the Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t dangerous.
The trio of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel can still take over games and they should be right back in the playoff hunt. Boston will hope they can have a repeat performance of their 8-4 blowout win last season.
Mar. 27, 2019 vs New York Rangers
The Bruins have a second NBC game against the New York Rangers in March, this time at TD Garden in Boston.
Mar. 31, 2019 @ Detroit Red Wings
Boston’s final nationally broadcast regular season game will be played against the Detroit Red Wings. After being an annual playoff team for seemingly forever, the Red Wings find themselves in the middle of a rebuild despite some young talent.
