Brees Makes History in Blowout Win

This primetime game will go down in the sportsbooks as one of the greatest games a quarterback has ever played.

It was a night to remember, as Brees also added another accolade to his Hall of Fame career.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke the NFL record for career touchdown passes (539) and finished the game with 541 for his career. The record was previously held by the popular Peyton Manning.

The record-breaking touchdown came on a “play-action” five-yard pass to tight end, Josh Hill in the third quarter.

Brees is possibly the greatest quarterback of all time.  After breaking the touchdown record last night, you could see the emotion in his eyes as he pointed to all the fans, signaling a heartfelt thanks.

Congratulations Drew Brees, congratulations.  Back to the game.

The Saints (10-3) have already clinched the NFC South and fighting for the #1 seed played the Indianapolis Colts (6-7) with no chance at a playoff spot.

First Half

The Colts received the kick-off to start the game.  The drive ended with a punt after an incomplete pass from Jacoby Brissett, to wide-open Zach Pascall.  After a holding call on the punt, the Colts punted the ball again which was blocked and recovered by the Saints.

The Saints were unable to capitalize on great field position but could only muster a field goal.  Saints 3-0.

The Colts next drive led to another punt after seven plays and only 36-yards.

In an impressive 90-yard drive by the Saints, led by Brees, Michael Thomas, and Alvin Kamara; Thomas was able to score on a 15-yard pass from Brees with 12:37 left in the second quarter.  Saints 10-0.

The Colts were scoreless the first half with four forced punts.  The struggling offense could only gain 76 total yards in the first half.

However, the Saints were able to score every time the offense touched the ball.  They scored another touchdown after driving another 85-yards down the field in only ten plays.  Brees threw a 21-yard pass to Tre’Quan SmithSaints 17-0. 

The team scored again on a 26-yard field goal at the end of the first half.  Saints 20-0.

Second Half

The Saints received the ball and the feeling in the superdome is special as they can feel Drew Brees is about to make history.  History was made on the first drive.  Brees threw a five-yard pass to Josh Hill to break the record. Saints 27-0.

After nine plays and only 26 yards the Colts turned the ball over on downs, the Saints scored their last touchdown of the game on another pass from Brees to Taysom HillSaints 34-0.

The game was stale for most of the fourth quarter with four punts.  The Colts, however, did score a touchdown after gaining 80 yards on 11 plays.  Jordan Wilkins scored on a one-yard run.  Saints 34-7.

Brees ended the historic night going 29-of-30 and 309 yards with four touchdowns, zero interceptions, and zero sacks.  He also boasted a perfect quarterback rating of 148.9 when all was said and done.

Michael Thomas had a great night as well with 128 yards on 12 receptions with one touchdown.

The Saints travel to play their next game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
