Last week’s Daytona 500 was the worst possible outcome for many bettors. All three of my outright winner picks (Ryan Blaney, Matt Dibenedetto, and Erik Jones) and Ryan Newman, wrecked in “the big one” on lap 14, one lap before the rain delay. This week we’ll look to get back on track in much less of a wildcard race as the drivers head back down to Daytona Beach for the road course.

Outright Winner
Martin Truex Jr: Outright Winner (+450)
Everyone knows that Chase Elliott is the guy to beat on road courses. However, Truex is the last driver to be able to take him down, and comes in at nearly double Elliott’s odds. Truex was able to make his way to the lead in the Busch Clash before driving it too hard into the bus stop and spinning himself into the wall. Last season, in the Inaugural Daytona Road Course race, Truex finished third. He led 10 laps in that race and will look to finish the job this year.
Alex Bowman: Outright Winner (+3000)
Bowman is a longshot to win but we know he is in very good equipment. He finished 12th in the Daytona road course last season. At the Charlotte Roval (which is similar to the Daytona Road Course), he has done very well. In three races at the Roval, Bowman finished fourth, second, and eighth. At his odds, he’s a very good longshot option to throw some money on this week.
Prop Bets
Alex Bowman: Top-five finish (+350)
If Bowman is unable to pick up the win, he could very easily cover your losses with a top-five finish. As I said, he finished in the top five in two races at the Charlotte Roval last season, though he was not able to secure a top-five at the Daytona Road Course. I like his chances this year. Having Elliott (who has dominated on the road courses) as his teammate helps as well.
Kurt Busch: Top-10 finish (+115)
Busch has quietly been a very solid road course racer in his career. Since 2014, Busch has finished in the top-10 at road courses in 11 out of 17 races. Although he does only have one road course win to his name — back in 2011 — at Sonoma. He can still get it done on road courses and should be a contender for a top-10 finish.
