Bruins Player’s Brother Forced to Retire

Hockey life is not always as smooth and easy-going as some would suggest. While Jeremy Lauzon has seen his time with the Boston Bruins over the past season, his younger brother had to give up on his dream of becoming a regular NHLer.

Jeremy Lauzon is the eldest of the three Lauzons. All of the three brothers play hockey. Jeremy, the 22-year-old left-handed defenseman, was selected as the 52nd overall player in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft. In his first two years after his draft, Lauzon skated with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL.

In both of those seasons, he skated with his younger brother, Zachary Lauzon, who is also a left-handed blue-liner. In 2017, Zach was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft, one place higher than Jeremy, as the 51st overall player. However, the Pittsburgh Penguins chose him.

The Lauzons couldn’t be prouder as their two sons were picked high in the NHL Draft. Besides, the 18-year-old Emile Lauzon, center, currently plays for the Val-d´Or Foreurs in the QMJHL.

While Jeremy went to play for the Providence Bruins in the 2017-18 campaign, Zach continued his stint with the Huskies. A concussion suffered midway through the season impeded him from playing for a long time. Last year, he was projected to play with Jakub Lauko, the Bruins draft choice from 2018, but he had to miss the entire season.

In the summer, he was invited to the Penguins’ Development Camp and as well to the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, where he would face the Bruins, by the way. The concussion seemed to go away, but at last, the symptoms returned, and Zach was forced to retire. At the age of 20, a promising young defenseman had to retire.

Meanwhile, Jeremy has played in 16 games with the Bruins and has fulfilled his dream of playing in the NHL. His brother, however, will never get a chance. Sure Jeremy, who has scored one goal already, would address his next NHL goal to his younger brother. The health comes first, always. Hopefully, even without hockey, the 20-year-old Zach will be enjoying his life soon.

Do We Really Need All-Star Games Anymore?

It is safe to say last weekend’s event re-ignited the long-running criticisms of the NBA All-Star Game, which has historically been an event where most will only play at about half of their usual intensity to let their fellow players shine. Five players cracked the 30-point barrier, and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored an eye-popping 50 points.
