Bergeron to Miss China Preseason Game

Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron was back on the ice this week for the first time after undergoing a successful surgery back in early June to fix a groin injury.

Because of this, the forward will not participate in the Bruins’ preseason game in China and instead will focus on his recovery, Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com reports. However, Bergeron hopes to be back for Opening Night Oct. 3 in Washington against the defending Stanley Cup Champions Washington Capitals.

“The fact that the surgery was done in June set me back a little bit,” Bergeron said after Captain’s practice at Warrior Ice Arena. “Pretty much all of July I was rehabbing and all that, so I’m a little bit behind. But I’m still shooting to be ready for Game 1 of the season on opening night. That’s the goal right now.”

If Bergeron is unable to suit up for Opening Night, David Krejci will most likely slot in as first line center.
