With a big game against Leipzig on Sunday, Bayern took the pitch for its match in the DFB Pokal against Hoffenheim.
While Bayern has shown overall improvement since the dismissal of Nico Kovac, Hoffenheim was not to be taken lightly. Hoffenheim is one of only four teams to defeat the Bavarian Giants this year.
Bayern was stunned in the eighth minute with an own goal from Jerome Boateng, but Benjamin Hubner returned the favor with an own goal of his own in the 12th minute to make it 1-1. From then on, Bayern dominated most of the game, until the very end.
Thomas Muller scored from a David Alaba cross to make it 2-1. A little later, Robert Lewandowski nabbed an easy header from a ball that had been deflected into the air to make it 3-1. Lewandowski got on the score sheet once again later on in the game to make it 4-1.
Hoffenheim did have a late run with two quick goals from Moanes Dabour in the 82nd and 92nd minutes, but it wasn’t enough and Bayern won the game 4-3.
What To Do About Hansi Flick
The question burning in the minds of most Bayern Munich fans? Has Hansi Flick done enough to remain the coach of Bayern Munich? While his merits as a head coach have been debated, one thing is certain; Flick has done a sensational job since taking over for Kovac.
Bayern has already stated Flick is in charge until after the season. At that point, they will then look at their options and decide from there. Barring a disastrous campaign in the Champions League (specifically against Chelsea), I’m not sure what would cause Flick to lose his job.
He has also done all this with a squad that has been often injured during his time at the helm. David Alaba has performed admirably at center back, but no one could have guessed the combination of Alaba and Boateng would be one of the only options for as long as it has been.
There is still plenty of time before the end of the season, but as it stands right now, It’s hard to envision a scenario where Flick isn’t allowed to continue as coach.
