Bayern Munich and AC Milan will play at the Arrowhead Stadium this summer.

This summer, two of the best European soccer clubs will play at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. FC Bayern of Munich and AC Milan accepted to play in one of the loudest venues in the United States as part of the International Champions Cup this summer on July 23.

2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes announced the game via Twitter. To celebrate the news that German soccer powerhouse Bayern Münich is coming to Kansas City this summer, the Chiefs shared a video of quarterback Patrick Mahomes playing soccer. In the video, Mahomes juggled the ball several times and then placed the ball into an empty net.

This will be a great way to show the Arrowhead as an entertainment destination

As Kansas City looks to become a 2026 FIFA World Cup venue, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt sent an invitation to FC Bayern. Hunt is also involved in the FC Dallas soccer club and the German team has always been a partner of the MLS team since the launch of their Elite Player Development Program.

“I just had the privilege of traveling to Munich and watching FC Bayern in Allianz Arena again, and I am always amazed by the incredible atmosphere and fan culture around FC Bayern,” Hunt told the Kansas City Star. “We are very familiar with the intense passion of sports fans in Kansas City, and that includes a continually expanding interest in soccer. I’m very pleased that we will be able to host FC Bayern at Arrowhead to not only help promote international soccer in Kansas City but also offer soccer fans the opportunity to see one of the world’s premier clubs up close.”

“The Hunt family are not only pioneers in American sports, but they are also part of the FC Bayern family. We are delighted to accept their invitation and it will be an honor for us to play at the home of the Kansas City Chiefs this summer,” commented Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, FC Bayern Chief Executive Officer.

As a further motivation to attend the game this summer, everyone who signs up for tickets is entered in a lottery to win an autographed Patrick Mahomes FC Bayern jersey, according to Bayern Munich’s official website.

Additionally, the Kansas City Chiefs are focused on making Arrowhead Stadium an entertainment destination that serves the entire Midwest region. With more than 76,000 seats Arrowhead Stadium is more than just a venue for football games.

First game featuring a European soccer team since 2010

The game marks the first featuring a European soccer power at Arrowhead Stadium since 2010 when the then-Kansas City Wizards beat Manchester United in a friendly game.

Arrowhead Stadium is one of the best venues to watch American football games and in a 2014 matchup with the New England Patriots, the crowd at Arrowhead set a Guinness world record for loudest crowd roar.

This will be a great way to show Kansas City to other people coming from outside of the country and show the great sports culture of the city.

In Europe, watching sports is almost religious, as the atmosphere is totally different. However, the passion found in Kansas City is very similar to what one would find in European soccer stadiums.
