Detroit Lions Week 1 Recap- The Agony of a Tie

You read that right. The Lions did what the NFL is trying so desperately to make impossible, end a game in a tie. After taking a 24-6 lead into the 4th quarter, the Cardinals rallied back to send the game to Overtime. A pair of field goals evened the score at 27, and the game ended there.

Detroit Lions 53-Man Roster Breakdown/Preview

The Detroit Lions are on the prowl. In Matt Patricia’s second season as Head Coach, the squad is hoping to improve on their 6-10 record from last season. In their way stands a host of foes. Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, and Aaron Rodgers, just to name a few. To take down these men and take on the challenge of winning the NFC North, you must have a sound 53-man roster. 6-10 tells me there’s a lot of work to do, and I’m sure it says the same to my fellow readers. Into the 80s with Tom Greene- A Possible Wild Card Matchup

The end of the baseball season is getting closer. As temperatures begin to drop, the heat begins to rise on the teams that haven’t yet joined the 80-win club. After a few days away to take care of employment situations, I return to bring you two more teams that have joined our club. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Indians have been battling all season to reach a postseason berth. Now that they’ve reached 80 wins, they both feel they’re almost there. And, they’re telling the rest of the 80s club, (indirectly) “Shut your halfwit pie-holes! We’re trying to make the playoffs!”

OK, that SpongeBob reference may not have been the 80s, but we’re breaking down a team that didn’t even exist in the 80s but have some pretty awesome  “Throwback” uniforms. The Rays help the sunrise on this edition of, “Backtrax MLB!”

Into the 80s with Tom Greene- Minnesota Twins

Two days after the Atlanta Braves joined the 80-win club, the Minnesota Twins join the party. In Atlanta, there seems to be doubt as far as the pitching goes. In Minnesota, fans and broadcasters (like Jenny Taft, Jamie Hersch, Marney Gellner, Dawn Mitchell, Jamie Erdahl, and Kevin Gorg,) are simply excited that this season has exceeded expectations. Of course, this is said on one condition. Our @jball0202 expects championships in Minnesota, and nothing else (maybe championship-style writing from me? I do my best.)

Into the 80s with Tom Greene- Atlanta Braves

Our “Into the 80s” series rolls on. The fourth team to join the 80-win-club is the Atlanta Braves. When Bryce Harper signed with the Phillies, most of the national media picked Philly to win the NL East. What the media didn’t say is that the Braves won the NL East last season. Harper may have made you forget about Ronald Acuña, Jr. and his team. At 80-53, they are behind the Dodgers, Astros, and the Yankees, but are still a force to be reckoned with.

This second installment of “Into the 80s with Tom Greene” took a few days longer than I, or even the Astros, had anticipated. But, nonetheless, the Astros become the third team this season to join the 80-win club. This comes at no surprise to baseball fans, as the Astros have seemingly controlled the AL West since 2015. However, their vision looks farther than winning the West. They want another World Series title, and they want it now. Let’s break the Astros’ team.

Into the 80s with Tom Greene- New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers

81 wins for a teams means they are assured they can finish no worse than .500. However, if you have 80 wins in August, you’ll finish above .500, guaranteed. You’ll most likely make the playoffs, too. Of course, barring catastrophic injuries or a strike.

On the radio, Tom Kent brought us back into the 80s on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night, dependent on where you are in the nation and what radio station you listen to. For me, it was Saturday night. In 2019, I bring you back into the 80s, by breaking down the teams that reach 80 wins. We had two that reached that mark last night. Let’s get to work.
