Everyone was ready to count out the Miami Heat. There were debates on national TV shows about who should win finals MVP between LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Radio shows were talking about Dwight Howard getting his first ring. There was very little talk about the Heat heading into Game 5.
The Miami Heat had plenty of opportunities to tie this series and fell short. Like last game, Miami showed their defensive toughness early, making it difficult for the Los Angeles Lakers to score in the half-court. However, the Lakers snatched more 50-50 balls and made more plays in the end.
It’s now official. There won’t be a sweep in these NBA Finals. This was about the Miami Heat’s will to not quit with the odds stacked up against them. When the Los Angeles Lakers retook the lead in the fourth quarter, the Heat responded. Miami played more physical on the defensive end, making the Lakers work on the offensive end. Fueled by Jimmy Butler’s performance, the Heat defeated the Lakers 115-104. With the victory, Miami now trails the series 2-1.
Though shorthanded, the Miami Heat put up a fight, trimming an 18-point deficit down to nine multiple times.
However, it wasn’t enough. The star power of the Los Angeles Lakers was just too much to overcome as Miami fell 124-114.
The first game of the NBA Finals is in the books. And it wasn’t a good start for the Miami Heat. After trailing the Heat by 13 points in the first period, the Los Angeles Lakers dominated the game the rest of the way.

After the first quarter, it appeared the Boston Celtics were ready to go home. Trailing 3-1 in the series, they couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end. They had just been outscored 26-18 by the Miami Heat in the first period.
The Miami Heat are one win away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 2014. They defeated the Boston Celtics 112-109. Just like the previous three games, this one went down to the wire. However, the Heat was still able to pull away with the victory with clutch free throws. Miami now leads the series 3-1. They’ve only lost two games this postseason so far.
Once again, the Miami Heat found themselves trailing by double-digits. And yes, the Heat fought back in the end, even cutting the lead to five late in the fourth quarter. But this time the Boston Celtics closed the game.

Everyone knew coming into the series that this was going to be a dogfight. The Boston Celtics threw the first punch and had a double-digit lead to start the game. Instead of putting their heads down, the Miami Heat kept fighting. They overcame a 13 point deficit in the first period and a 14-point deficit in the fourth period.
The Miami Heat are in the Eastern Conference Finals, which surprised many national analysts. But, if you watched the Heat over the years, you wouldn’t be surprised.
