David Blatt-Fighting The Battle of His Life

On Monday, former Cleveland Cavaliers and current Olympiacos coach David Blatt revealed that he was suffering from a progressive neurologic condition called Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. This form of multiple sclerosis is one of four disease paths that have been identified in this disease. Blatt is not alone in the sports world to be suffering from this debilitating disease.

Give the Gift of Life

Nearly 100,000 people are currently waiting for a kidney transplant. In fact, more people are waiting for a match because of kidney failure than all other organs combined. On Wednesday word is spread all over social media that former NFL defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was in desperate need of a kidney due to the failure of his kidneys. He posted on Instagram that the time had come to ask for help and fans and media alike have been spreading his plea for help on social media platforms far and wide. Another NFL player who has already gone through a kidney transplant is former Bills wide receiver, Donald Jones. Jones has written a book, The Next Quarter, about his experiences before during and after the transplant. Information about obtaining the book is available at DonaldJones.info. It is a great read.

Stroke vs TIA

The week of July 4th was full of unusual medical news from the sports world. It started with the untimely and unexpected death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs and ended with the news that former New England Patriots linebacker and current ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi had suffered a second stroke. His first occurred in February 2005 during the offseason.

Sudden Unexpected Death- Usually There Are No Warning Signs

The news of the unexpected passing of the Los Angeles Angels’ starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs rocked the sports world late Monday afternoon. An autopsy was to be performed today, but it may take some time before a cause of death is officially determined.  As of the time the notification was made it was made clear that foul play and suicide did not appear to be the reason for his unexpected passing.
