Carolina Panthers Play Host in NFC South Divisional Matchup as Atlanta Falcons Come to Town

The Atlanta Falcons will travel to Charlotte, N.C., on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2019, to face the Carolina Panthers in a Week 11 divisional matchup.  The Falcons lead the all-time series 30-18 and have won the last three games, including the last time the two teams met last year. Atlanta comes into Week 11 with a 2-7 record after defeating New Orleans in a shocker last week, and the Panthers are 5-4 following a loss at Green Bay in Week 10. The Panthers are slightly favored to win with the home-field advantage at 50.5 percent.

Atlanta Falcons Notables:

The Falcons have posted an average of 377.7 offensive yards midway into the season with Matt Ryan throwing 222 of 320 completed passes for 2,352 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions for a 96.5 rating. Devonta Freeman leads the team with 107 carries for 371 yards and Julio Jones has recorded 53 receptions for 791 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Grady Jarrett has posted five-and-a-half sacks while Desmond Trufant leads with two interceptions. Kicker Younghoe Koo, who replaced Matt Bryant, added 14 points to the total last week with two extra points and connecting on all four field-goal attempts.

Falcons’ Offense:

Quarterback Matt Ryan posted two touchdowns and an interception in the victory over New Orleans last week and has recorded 49,072 career passing yards. Once Ryan passes for another 254 yards, he will move into 10th place for most passing yards in league history, bumping Hall of Famer Warren Moon from that position. Ryan has posted 2,227 passing yards for 15 touchdowns and three interceptions and a 116.1 rating in his last seven games against Carolina and is going for his fourth in a row with two or more touchdown passes.

Wide receiver Julio Jones posted 79 receiving yards last week but leads all wide receivers in receptions and receiving yards, giving him an average 96 receiving yards per game average, which is the highest in NFL history. Jones also recorded a touchdown in the last meeting against Carolina.

Calvin Ridley has posted seven receiving touchdowns in his seven career games against a NFC South opponent, has recorded a touchdown catch in the last two of three games on the road, and also recorded a touchdown catch in the last meeting, going for his third in a row against the Panthers with at least one receiving touchdown.

Running back Brian Hill recorded 71 total scrimmage yards and his first career receiving touchdown in Week 10 and is looking for his third game in a row with a touchdown.

Falcons’ Defense:

Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett recorded two-and-a-half sacks in Week 10, which was his third career game with two or more sacks. He is going for his third game in a row with at least one sack.

Linebacker Vic Beasley was also credited with one-and-a-half sacks last week and De’Vondre Campbell posted a sack and is going for his 11th game in a row with five or more tackles. Deion Jones recorded 14 tackles and a forced fumble in the last meeting and is going for his fifth game in a row against Carolina with 10 or more tackles.

Safety Damontae Kraze is going for his fifth game in a row on the road against the NFC South with at least one pass deflection, while cornerback Desmond Trufant is searching for his fifth such game in a row against Carolina.

Carolina Panthers Notables:

The Panthers have recorded an average of 346.6 offensive yards per week this season with backup quarterback Kyle Allen at the helm. He has completed 144 of 234 passes for 1,598 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions for a rating of 87.2. Possible MVP contender Christian McCaffrey has recorded 185 carries for 989 yards and 11 touchdowns so far this season, while D.J. Moore has 54 catches for 684 yards and a touchdown. Mario Addison leads the Panthers with seven sacks, even after missing a game due to the death of his younger brother, while James Bradberry and Donte Jackson are both tied with three interceptions on the season. Rookie kicker Joey Slye has kicked an impressive 21 of 23 extra points and 16 of 22 field goals in his first season.

Panthers Offense:

Allen recorded a career-high 307 yards with one touchdown and an interception for an 84.2 rating in Week 10 against Green Bay. In his two career starts against a divisional opponent, he has posted five touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 107.7 rating. Allen is going for his third game in a row versus a divisional opponent with at least a 100 rating.

Running back Christian McCaffrey recorded 141 scrimmage yards last week with a rushing touchdown and is vying for his eighth game in a row with a rushing touchdown.  In the last meeting, McCaffrey posted 178 scrimmage yards and is going for his third game in a row against Atlanta with 12 or more receptions and 100 or more yards. McCaffery is tied for the lead in the NFL with 14 scrimmage touchdowns and ranks second in rushing and scrimmage yards.

Wide receiver D.J. Moore tied his career-high with nine catches and 120 receiving yards last week and is going for his third game in a row with at least seven receptions and 100 or more receiving yards. Curtis Samuel recorded a touchdown catch last week and has three receiving and one rushing touchdown in his last four games. Samuel is aiming for his third game in a row with a touchdown catch.

Tight end Greg Olsen posted eight catches for 98 receiving yards in Week 10 and has six or more catches in the past two of three games against Atlanta.

Panthers Defense:

Linebacker Luke Kuechly recorded six tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass deflection in the last meeting and is going for his fourth game in a row against Atlanta with a tackle for loss. Kuechly is also one of three linebackers with 80+ tackles, five or more pass deflections, and two or more interceptions in 2019, while teammate Shaq Thompson is going for his seventh game in a row at home with seven or more tackles.

Defensive end Mario Addison has posted a sack in the last two of three games at home against Atlanta, and Vernon Butler posted a sack last week and also recorded three sacks in his last four games. Cornerback Donte Jackson posted a career-high three pass deflections last week and has three interceptions and six pass deflections recorded in his last four games.
