Anton Khudobin Should Be the Bruins Number One Goalie… For Now

The Boston Bruins, who looked done for this time last week, are looking like they’re prepared to right the ship after winning three in a row against the Kings, Sharks, and Devils.

The Bs critical west coast road trip was a success. The team won two of their three games, all of which were against legit Pacific Division squads. What’s more impressive however is the fact that they did this without Brad Marchand, David Backes, Torey Krug, and Anders Bjork.

Brad Marchand and David Backes have been cleared to return to practice however, so long as they don the red non-contact jersey, but may still be out for a while.

The biggest pleasant surprise for the Bruins during their road trip was the play of backup goalie Anton Khudobin.

Tuukka Rask hasn’t looked like his usual self ever since returning from his concussion and his play has been a part of the Bruins issues. He allowed four goals in the team’s loss to Anaheim.

Anton Khudobin played the other three games of the road trip and carried the team to victory with multiple lights out performances, including a great shootout performance against the Devils.

In six periods against a legit San Jose Sharks squad and the Pacific Division leading Los Angeles Kings, he made 63 saves and allowed only two goals.

Against New Jersey, Khudobin made 40 saves on 42 shots, also adding five saves in a shootout that went 11 rounds. He only allowed one goal in the shootout.

It’s too early to outright say that Khudobin should take over as the primary goalie, but he is playing much better than Rask right now, and the Bruins should ride the hot hand.
