Anaheim Ducks 2022 Trade Deadline Preview

Ducks trade deadline 2022

This far into the season, many are surprised to see the Ducks in such a good spot. Season previews (and many analysts) gave the Ducks a slim chance to compete, while in hopes of building a young foundation. With the emergence of Trevor Zegras, the offense has taken a huge leap forward, and Anaheim is looking to build on it. In a quick turn of fortune, the Ducks currently sit at sixth in the Pacific Division. With a playoff spot on the line, it is much more likely that they could be looking to further their depth, in order to ensure future postseason play.

Hampus Lindholm

Lindholm is an attractive left side defenseman who could be a key roster piece for a contender. The 28-year-old is averaging 22 minutes per game, solidifying himself as a exceptional roster piece on any team that he joins, and could be sold. The two-way player provides a huge offensive threat on the blue line. As the Ducks look to build for the future, some picks and younger prospects may be shipped for Lindholm.

Rickard Rakell

Rackell has proven to be a desirable piece to multiple teams in the league. The 28-year-old Swede has played well enough to warrant a first round pick in exchange for his services. General Manager Pat Verbeek is seeking a 2023 first-rounder for the winger. Though Verbeek has not ruled out resigning Rackell, the New York Rangers have shown interest in obtaining him. His production on offense could add a good second or third line wing to any top contender.

Nicolas Deslauriers

If these three players were traveling musicians, Deslauriers would be the opening act. Although he doesn’t provide as much glitz as the first two potential trade pieces, he is a gritty player who could add depth. With his free agency pending he is likely to be shipped before the deadline. Verbeek would be looking for a mid-round pick or prospect in exchange for the 31-year-old Canadian. No Stanley Cup roster is full of all stars. Deslauriers could become a key depth piece if the right contender scoops him up.

Do We Really Need All-Star Games Anymore?

It is safe to say last weekend’s event re-ignited the long-running criticisms of the NBA All-Star Game, which has historically been an event where most will only play at about half of their usual intensity to let their fellow players shine. Five players cracked the 30-point barrier, and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored an eye-popping 50 points.
