An intriguing Francisco Lindor-Mets trade that benefits both sides

An intriguing Francisco Lindor-Mets trade

The Cleveland Indians have told teams they intend to trade Francisco Lindor before next season. The New York Mets are a perfect fit and have the necessary assets to complete a trade.

The Hypothetical Trade

Mets receive: Francisco Lindor (Total Value: 36.20)

Indians receive: Brandon Nimmo, Amed Rosario, Thomas Szapucki (Total Value: 34.40)

A big advantage and perhaps even a motivation to acquiring Lindor would not only be that the Mets get him for a season that they figure to be in contention, but they’d get a whole year as the ONLY team able to negotiate a contract with him.

Look at what the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to do with superstar outfielder Mookie Betts when they acquired him before the 2020 season from the Boston Red Sox. Not only did they get a World Series victory out of Betts’ first year with the team but they were able to ensure he would be wearing a Dodger uniform for the remainder of his career. Before the 2020 season, the 2018 AL MVP signed a 12-year, $365 million extension.

Cohen is in his first offseason as the owner of the Mets. He has more money than any owner in professional sports ($14.6 billion). So finding the money to extend Lindor wouldn’t be the problem. The real roadblocks are getting the Indians to send him over (since they will contend next season) and convincing Lindor to forgo free agency when 29 other teams could be involved.

  1. Sorry Ben, your trade offer is just not realistic for the Indians. They still believe that Mercado is their CF of the future (so there’s no need for Nimmo). A corner OFer like Dom Smith would be more attractive. The Mets (unfortunately) would have to shell out more. The Indians would probably push for Dom Smith and Andres Gimenez + Szapucki for Lindor.

    Do you make THAT deal?
