MLB DraftKings Around the Horn July 4th, 2019

Joel Dorcas |July 4th, 2019

Happy Independence Day! What better way to spend your holiday than watching baseball and playing daily fantasy. Summer is just getting started and the mid-summer classic is just around the corner. By now we have a pretty good handle on who we can count on for production so let’s keep grinding out solid lineups. Put on the spikes kids, we’re going Around the Horn!

PITCHER

Anibal Sanchez WSH $8,300

As much as it pains me to write about Sanchez as a viable option we can’t ignore the solid production just don’t expect more than six innings and 15-17 fantasy points. In Sanchez’s last seven starts he has given up more than two earned runs just a single time (four to Atlanta, June 22nd). He carries a 4-0 record over the span. As for his opponents, the Maimi Marlins, they are hitting just .237 with a .652 OPS in 84 combined plate appearances off of Sanchez.

INFIELD

Justin Smoak TOR 1B $3,900

Smoak has had good success against the Red Sox over his career. Most recently over the last two seasons, he has hit 9 HRs and 19 RBI in 24 games. The Red Sox are looking to right-hander Hector Velazquez who has started seven of 20 games he has pitched in this season and carries an ERA of 5.31 with a 1-3 record. If Velazquez has a short leash Smoak and the Jays will look to tee off against the very average Red Sox bullpen which ranks 15th in baseball in ERA at 4,44.

Jason Kipnis CLE 2B $3,800

The offense has to come from somewhere if the Tribe are going to continue to put up wins. Players like veteran Jason Kipnis have stepped up to make up for the lack of production from players such as Jose Ramirez. In 24 games in June Kipnis hit .273 with 4 homers and 18 RBI. Opposing pitcher Homer Bailey has a 4.70 ERA and seven long balls given up in 46 innings to left-handed hitters this season.

OUTFIELD

Kyle Schwarber CHC $4,100

The Cubs will draw Pirates starter Jordan Lyles after he posted an ugly ERA of 6.00 in the month of June. Kyle Schwarber in 28 games last month, hit .262 with eight bombs and 19 RBI with a .856 OPS and a .350 wOBA. Schwarber has taken Lyles deep in one of his three plate appearances. Lyles has struggled against left-handed hitters this season, allowing a .376 wOBA a .284 average as well as giving up six taters in 27 innings of work.

Nicholas Castellanos DET $4,300

Targeting against Reynaldo Lopez is always a good idea. Castellanos and even Miguel Cabrera are worth a look here and they won’t break the bank. It has been a struggle in the run-producing department for the former third baseman but he did manage to hit .297 in 25 games in June. Castellanos is 10-for-27 with six runs and a .963 OPS against Lopez.
