Following a four-game winning streak, the Washington Mystics obliterated the Connecticut Sun on Saturday at Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
After losing the first two meetings against the Sun this season, the Mystics came out shooting well and playing stellar defense which allowed them to go on an early run and control the pace of the game. The tenacity and confidence of the entire Mystics squad led to six players scoring in double figures and shooting 53% from the field with Connecticut only shooting 30%.
It didn’t take long for the Mystics to start controlling the game on both ends of the floor. Washington’s defense forced 14 turnovers and caused a crumbling Connecticut team to get frustrated. Mystics star Elena Delle Donne had another fantastic double-double performance by scoring 19 points and securing 10 rebounds. Not only did Washington dominate the Sun on both ends of the floor, but they also (unsurprisingly) dominated them at the free throw line shooting 100% to the Sun’s 76.9% from the line.
This desperately needed win helped the Mystics to advance to the top of the WNBA league standings from the #2 spot overall spot. It is safe to say that the Washington Mystics are on fire and it does not look like they are cooling down any time soon.
