Today we take a look at one question that has been asked frequently for the past few months. Should the Boston Bruins try to trade or keep David Krejci?
David Krejci was drafted by the Bruins 63rd overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft after playing for HC Kladno. After he was drafted he learned to better skate playing in North America.
To start, if any trade would come to fruition, Krejci would have to sign off on it due to the no-movement clause in his contract. In some team blogs, fans have turned on Krejci due to his salary and production as a top paid player in the league. Yes, Krejci is set to make $7.5 million and is due over $7 million for the next five seasons.
Trading Krejci would be a huge mistake. The Matrix as nicknamed by Jack Edwards has been a pivotal player for the Bruins the past seven years. Fans are quick to forget Krejci is one of the few top flight centers who has to adapt his game and make adjustments with new wingers almost seemingly every year. Losing players where you had a great chemistry with and still perform to his 60 points standard shows the talent and skill of a player.
Let’s not forget also that in both Bruins’ Stanley Cup Playoff runs, Krejci was the leading scorer for the Black and Gold. if you’re more of an advance stats nut, Krejci was ranked 21st in the league in takeaways this year with only Marchand and Bergy ahead of him on the tem.
The “injury prone” thing is a farce. Only once in his career has he missed more than 10 games in a season. Krejci played in all 82 games this year. There’s a lot more scapegoats on this team than one of the Bruins core guys, who wears the “A” for a reason.
