The United States Men’s National Team is preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
After failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, the USMNT is looking to make a strong impact. The team is drawn into a group with England, Wales, and Iran. No doubt, the group stage is going to be a challenging obstacle for the team, but they’re a squad with talent that is capable of pulling off surprising results.
The USMNT will announce its World Cup roster on Nov. 9, 2022. However, the USMNT just wrapped up two exhibition games that are part of the pre-World Cup preparation. Unfortunately, the results from the two games were rather unconvincing: a loss to Japan and a scoreless draw against Saudi Arabia.

The team doesn’t look ready
Bad results in exhibitions before a World Cup can, more often than not, result in bad luck for a team. The USMNT team won the 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League and the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. For the USMNT, bad performances against Japan and Saudi Arabia strongly suggest that the team is not ready to compete in Qatar.
A bad outing in the World Cup won’t do the national team any good whatsoever. In addition, it would likely result in Gregg Berhalter being fired, although many have been calling for this for a long time.
The USMNT plays its first World Cup match on Nov. 21. They take on Wales followed by England before wrapping up the group stage against Iran. Right now, the USMNT has a lot to improve. They need to regain their winning attitude and in order to do so, they need to be motivated.
With motivation, they’ll be able to regain their passion, vision, and, most importantly, confidence. And being that there are less than 70 days left until they play Wales, the team needs to get their act together quickly.
