Week 1 of the National Football League has come and gone. It is time to nominate a Team of the Week.

In Week 1, the Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a dominant win against the Arizona Cardinals with an all-out dominant performance by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Let’s break Kansas City’s big performance.

Keys to Chiefs Victory

Mahomes had a fantastic showing in this game, passing for 360 yards with five touchdowns. That effort led Kansas City to a 44-21 win over the Cardinals. The leading receiver for the Chiefs was tight end Travis Kelce, who notched eight receptions, 121 receiving yards, and one touchdown. The Chiefs’ run game was unstoppable, too, headlined by Clyde Edwards-Helaire; he rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown.

Kansas City’s defense was able to hold Kyler Murray to 193 passing yards and two scores. Nick Bolton led the unit in solo tackles.

From a special teams perspective, Skyy Moore was a key piece in the return game. Meanwhile, Justin Reid was able to make another extra point, relieving the injured Harrison Butker

Quality of Opponent

Now, of course, we must look at the quality of the Chiefs’ opponent. Last season, the Cardinals were a playoff team. Don’t forget that they were the last undefeated team in 2021, going 7-0 before suffering a loss at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.

Final Thoughts

Both Kansas City and the Buffalo Bills were the top two candidates to be recognized as the Team of the Week in Week 1. Ultimately, the nod goes to the Kansas City Chiefs because Buffalo got off to a slow start while the Chiefs were great for the whole game.
