KTM has officially chosen violence for the 50th season of AMA Pro Motocross. Just a hair over a week after Antonio Cairoli declared for the first two rounds of the series, Ryan Dungey is now set for the same schedule with Red Bull KTM. The rider who currently ranks second all-time in 450/250 two-stroke National wins has not run a full season of Pro Motocross since 2016. However, Dungey has been gearing up for this comeback for quite some time.

Long Time Coming
When he retired at the end of the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross season, Dungey wasn’t riding like a guy who was ready to hang up the boots. However, a notable neck injury the year prior in Motocross, and the desire to start a family sped things up a bit. With that all out there, Dungey has done some tests here and there over the years which has resulted in a few near comebacks. That includes one around the time he was with the now-defunct GEICO Honda squad. Now five years after his initial retirement, one of the sport’s true all-time greats is back.

Only Two Rounds?
Just like Cairoli, KTM says it is only a two-round return for Dungey. Just like with Cairoli, that is hard to believe, especially in the event Dungey either A; riding as a top-five guy after two rounds, or B; simply feels good on the bike and is having fun. Not to mention, Aaron Plessinger could be the only full-time guy Red Bull KTM has for the summer, with Cooper Webb rumored to bow out. In that event, it isn’t like Red Bull KTM has no room to allow Dunge to run the full season. Additionally, there is still the Jeffrey Herlings situation that needs to be ironed out. Cairoli was on the PulpMX show earlier this week and had some stuff to say about his former teammate.
