Big news out of the Red Bull KTM camp on Wednesday afternoon. Rider Aaron Plessinger in a practice crash suffered a broken arm, which will in all likelihood end his Supercross campaign. As of today, Plessinger sits 10th in points, averaging a finish of 9.4, and has a podium at the second round of the year in Oakland to his name. This injury brings Red Bull KTM back to a two-rider team with Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin for the foreseeable future.

Feels like there are more major practice injuries this year than in years past, and Plessinger is now the latest. The good news here is that the recovery process is starting now in his own words. The bad news is that the Red Bull KTM team now expects the former multi-time 250 Supercross Champion to miss the rest of Supercross. The team’s presser released yesterday read as such.
“Plessinger will undergo surgery as soon as possible to repair the bone, therefore missing Round 8 of the AMA Supercross Championship series this weekend in Arlington, Texas. While his healing time has not been fully determined, Plessinger will most likely miss the remainder of the Supercross season.”
Additionally, Plessinger had some words on top of his Instagram post as well. His statement went as such.
“I was having a great day training today but unfortunately a pretty simple get-off resulted in a broken radius bone. I’m super disappointed as I felt like I was starting to find my groove this week. We made a lot of progress testing, so I’m upset that all our hard work in recent weeks has come to an abrupt end for the season. I’ll do what needs to be done to recover fully but will most likely miss the remainder of the supercross season.”
Will this Impact Plessinger’s Motocross Season?
Now that Plessinger has been effectively ruled out until the dead-end of May, a three-month layoff should hopefully mean he is good to go for the Pro Motocross opener at Pala. There is effectively zero reason to bring him back for Supercross if he recovers ahead of schedule either. No reason for Ian Harrison to bring him back when he’s by all accounts out of the points picture.
