We are not even a month into the 2022 Supercross season, and already the injuries have piled up. Seth Hammaker, of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki, is now the latest rider set to miss some time. According to the man himself, he suffered multiple injuries in a practice crash this week and will miss an indefinite amount of time as a result. This will now make Jo Shimoda the only Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider on 250 West for the foreseeable future.

A big bummer for Hammaker, who was second in the 250 West points two rounds in. For context, the T-vertebrae are in the middle of the spine. More specifically the lower half when talking about the T7 and T8. Compression fractures on top of a spleen laceration are no joke. According to our own Dr. Beth Sullivan, Hammaker could be looking at an 8-10-week recovery time solely based on the compression fractures, assuming surgery isn’t required.
Given that there will be just four rounds left for the 250 West field once that window closes, Mitch Payton shutting Hammaker down until outdoors would not be shocking. However, the rider out of Pennsylvania doesn’t know his timetable just yet, so hopefully he can come back before the season ends. In any case, this has been a rough stretch for 250 Supercross injuries. Justin Cooper and Jett Lawrence never even made it to Anaheim via preseason injuries. Then Colt Nichols and Jalek Swoll both went down in the opening heat races of the year. There is some good news on the latter, as Swoll will be lining up tomorrow night.
