Dallas Cowboys Trade Deadline Preview

The Dallas Cowboys have dominated since the start of the season, and hold a record of 5-1 in first place of the NFC East. Led by quarterback Dak Prescott and cornerback Trevon Diggs, the Cowboys have shown their competitors how good they really are.

As the trade deadline approaches, there is tons of chatter about what the Cowboys will do. Will we see wide receiver Michael Gallup go on the trading block, or will the Cowboys trade for a needed position? Besides the fact that the Cowboys have been dominating, they still need some help on the defensive side. With injuries from DeMarcus Lawrence, Kelvin Joseph, and Francis Bernard the Cowboys are scouting around for some young defensive help. Although, it would be helpful if the Boys in Blue can find some young talent to boost the offense even more.

Buyers or Sellers: Buyers

Current NFL Draft Slot: 24th Overall

Potential Trade #1: 2022 second-round pick to the New York Jets for Marcus Maye

The Cowboys are in desperate need of players in the backfield and Maye is a perfect fit for that role. He’s been in the league for five seasons and is a stud at the safety position. If Dallas acquires Maye, he will join Diggs and Anthony Brown in the secondary.

This trade makes sense for the Jets because they are in desperate need of young talent. By receiving a high draft pick they could draft a young star fresh out of college. They need offensive and defensive players and young college players like Justyn Ross at Clemson, or Josh Jobe at Alabama can lift the Jets off their feet in the coming years.

Potential Trade #2: La’el Collins and a 2022 third-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Michael Brockers and a 2022 sixth-round pick

Although the Cowboys already have Brent Urban and Osa Odighizuwa at defensive tackle, they could use a little boost from a player like Brockers. Brockers has been in the league for ten years and has plenty of experience playing on the inside or outside of the d-line. Although Dallas would only receive a sixth-round pick, you never know which players will be stars coming out of college.

This trade is perfect for the Lions; they have been struggling mightily and a veteran like Collins can give Jared Goff some more time in the pocket. Similarly, Detroit is in desperate need of young talent and a high draft pick can get them going.

Potential Trade #3: Michael Gallup to the New England Patriots for Devin McCourty and a 2023 third-round pick

As CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper dominate at wide receiver, it seems as the Cowboys are fine without Gallup. Nevertheless, they can trade him to the Patriots in exchange for Pro Bowler McCourty. The free safety is a star that can add a bit of a spark to the Cowboy defense.

The Patriots are struggling mightily at the wide receiver position. Led by Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor, the Pats need reinforcements to spark their offense. Gallup would be the perfect player to fill that hole in the offense. He is an elite receiver and can give Mac Jones another option to turn to.
