Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas’ Barcia and Mosiman out for Unadilla

The GasGas’ paddock will be notably empty for this upcoming weekend in central New York. In a pair of separate incidents, Justin Barcia and Michael Mosiman both hit the deck in midweek practice sessions. As a result, both riders will miss Unadilla this weekend. Barcia currently sits fourth in this year’s 450 class point race, winning earlier this season in Millville. Mosiman, meanwhile, is eighth on the 250 side of things, having a season-best result at Millville with a 3-2 day. This news especially stings for Barcia, amid rumors that he is potentially captaining the United States Motocross Des Nations effort.

Rider Quotes and Outlook

The team sent out quotes from both riders on their separate incidents on Thursday afternoon.

Barcia

“I’m definitely disappointed to say I won’t be heading to Unadilla this weekend – I’m a New York guy and it’s one of my favorite races – but I want to make sure I’m going there to win and if I’m not able to do that, I need to take my time and get back to 100%. I’m definitely going to miss the whole team there, all the supportive fans and of course being on the gate and racing for those wins but I’ll see everyone very soon.”

Mosiman

“I am super bummed that I’m not going to be able to race Unadilla, I was looking forward to it and felt really good. I feel like I’ve got a lot of momentum at my back right now but I’m going to take the time to heal up 100% and be right so I can race at the front of the pack. I’ve already missed a race and I’m out for the championship so it’s better for me to race at 100% than to go and try to salvage at less than that. We’ll come back stronger hopefully very soon.”

By the sounds of it, Mosiman may hopefully only miss this weekend, Barcia however may be in a week-to-week situation. If the latter is indeed on the US Des Nations team, you may see him at Unadilla, just not riding. In any case, the lone rider lining up for GasGas this weekend is Pierce Brown, who sits 12th in points. He looks to improve on what was a career-best day a few weeks ago at Washougal. Brown there went 6-4 for a fifth overall finish.
