Over the weekend, brothers Alex Martin and Jeremy Martin sustained injuries at the Thunder Valley National. We now know the extent of both riders’ injuries, and it appears we will not see either brother for a while. Jeremy aggravated a previously fractured wrist in 250 Moto 2. Meanwhile, earlier that day in qualifying, Alex fractured both the radius and ulna in his right arm coming through a downhill section.

For context on his injury, here is the qualifying incident that has put Martin on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

According to our own Dr. Beth Sullivan, Martin will more than likely be sidelined for anywhere between six to eight weeks in a cast. The good news here is that he has already undergone surgery on his arm, meaning that his recovery timetable has already begun. However, if he decides to come back into this year’s 250 championship, it will likely not happen until mid/late July at the earliest.
If “Troll Train” decides to rejoin this year’s 250 Motocross season, there is something to consider. His home National, Millville, is right on the edge of that six to eight-week window opening. The Martin brothers’ parents own the Millville track and both brothers have used it as a training ground in the past. In any instance, this was not how Martin likely envisioned his outdoor campaign starting in 2021. He had just come off a 19-16 for 18th overall at the first Pala National, on top of suffering multiple injuries over the course of Supercross.

If you may recall, Martin would be knocked out literally seconds into this year’s 250 West Supercross Championship. He was landed on by rookie rider Stilez Robertson and suffered a fractured wrist in Orlando. This injury would still be a nagging issue entering this year’s AMA Motocross season. However, Martin did not show that in his early efforts, scoring finishes of first, second, and first in the three initial Motos of the season. Martin then ended up wrecking during Moto 2 on Saturday, seemingly re-aggravating his already fractured wrist. Martin was knocked out of the Moto, the 250 points lead, and possibly the rest of the season. The rider took to Instagram to say this on Sunday, following his injury:

Via Steve Matthes, Martin is indeed opting for surgery on his wrist and is going under the knife in Colorado. This means that his season is likely over, unfortunately. According to Dr. Sullivan, his recovery timeline could be nearly six months based on how early/late his scaphoid is stabilized.
It is an absolute heartbreaker for the rider that was a heavy favorite to bring home titles in both Supercross and Motocross. Nearing 30-years-old and with a slew of up-and-coming talent, this could have been Martin’s last shot at a 250 championship. Not to mention the fact that he could possibly move up to the 450 class should the opportunity present itself. He would be a great addition to just about any 450 squad.
