Thursday Night Football DFS: Week 9

Jerick McKinnon

This Thursday night we get a rematch from the NFC Championship game. The 4-4 San Francisco 49ers host the 5-2 Green Bay Packers. The 49ers dominated the Packers last en route to a Super Bowl appearance behind a huge performance from Raheem Mostert. Mostert will be out for this game along with almost every starting skill position player on the 49ers. The Packers are looking to bounce back from their awful performance against the Minnesota Vikings last week. Their defense allowed Dalvin Cook to run all over them for a career day. The 49ers will look to bounce back from a rough day in Seattle when they lost Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle to injuries. Let’s jump right into the top players for this NFC showdown.

DraftKings Captain

Jerick McKinnon (DK Captain $12,000 | FD $6,000)

McKinnon is in line to be the third-down back for the 49ers with JaMycal Hasty being the early-down back. McKinnon saw 50 percent of the snaps compared to Hasty’s 41 percent last week. The game script in this matchup could go either way. If Hasty can get things going early he could get most of the work. However, if the Packers can jump out to an early lead and the 49ers are forced to play from behind then McKinnon will get most of the work. There is room however for both running backs to get plenty of work, especially with all the 49ers missing weapons. McKinnon should get plenty of opportunities in this game no matter how the script plays out.

FanDuel MVP

Davante Adams (DK $12,400 | FD $15,500)

Adams is going to be the Packer’s main source of offense especially if Aaron Jones is limited or out. Adams has already put up 502 yards in only five games this season. He has also been targeted 58 times. It’s no surprise that Rodgers looks to him early and often. The 49ers struggled last week to stop the Seahawks number one receiver D.K. Metcalf. He went off for 161 total yards and two touchdowns. If the 49ers offense struggles to move the ball with Nick Mullens, then field position will favor the Packers all game. That will set up Adams for many scoring opportunities. Look for Adams to have himself another big game.

Utility Players

JaMycal Hasty (DK $7,200 | FD $11,000)

The 49ers need to rely on a heavy running attack in this game. They have so many injuries and players out because of Covid-19 at every position. That will put Mullens in a tough spot with very limited weapons. However, the Packers defense has struggled to stop the run this season. If the 49ers are going to win this game then that’s what they are going to have to attack. They have allowed 14 total touchdowns to running backs in only eight games. Look for the 49ers to try and get Hasty going early followed by a heavy dose of McKinnon later in the game.

Robert Tonyan (DK $6,400 | FD $10,500)

Tonyan has been a key factor for the Packers offense this season. There have been a lot of question marks around the number two receiver for Aaron Rodgers and this offense. Tonyan helps fill that role and has had a breakout season thus far. He is tied for second with five touchdowns behind only Travis Kelce who has six. Tonyan also averages 51.5 receiving yards per game. He should continue to have success even though he is in a tough matchup. The 49ers have only allowed one touchdown to tight ends this season but look for Tonyan to add to that total in this game.
