The Pittsburgh Steelers could win a Super Bowl this year, which would set the team with a late pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Then again, winning a Super Bowl is always worth picking at the bottom of the first round. The Steelers, at 6-0, are on pace to make a deep playoff run if the team keeps this up. From the way early projections look, the Steelers appear to be on pace to pick anywhere from No. 27-No. 32 overall.
In 2020, the Steelers did not have a first-round pick as the team traded their selection to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The trade ended up working out for the Steelers as Fitzpatrick earned First-Team All-Pro status. With the defense looking complete, look for the Steelers to use their first-round pick on an offensive need.
Zach Wilson-Quarterback (BYU)
Ben Roethlisberger has helped fans cash out every bet possible on Draftkings Sportsbook PA this season. After missing nearly all of 2019, Big Ben is still proving he can lead a team as he enters Week 8 with 13 touchdowns to just four interceptions. However, the 38-year old will turn 39 in March and his time could be coming to a close.
With that said, Big Ben could very well play for at least two more seasons, which would be a perfect amount of time for the next franchise quarterback to develop. That quarterback could be BYU’s, Zach Wilson. As college football enters the halfway point, Wilson is a candidate to win the Heisman Trophy.
Wilson has led BYU to a 6-0 start by throwing a whopping 16 touchdown passes to just one interception. That includes 1,928 passing yards, which ranks second in the nation.
Rondale Moore-Wide Receiver (Purdue)
With JuJu Smith-Schuster entering the final year of his contract, the Steelers will need to make a decision on his future. The team could resign Smith-Schuster, or let him walk and elect to use their first-round pick on a standout wide receiver. That pick could be used on Rondale Moore, who could be the fastest receiver in the draft.
Draft analysts have compared Moore’s speed to that of Kansas City Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill. On paper, Moore has recorded a 4.33-second, 40-yard dash. His skills range from receiving, returning, and rushing. Moore almost sat out the 2020 season due to COVID-19, but when the Big 10 elected to have football, he decided to come back. After sitting out the first game of the season, fans will get to see Moore showcase his talents starting this week.
Josh Myers-Center (Ohio State)
The Steelers could opt to upgrade the team and try and go on a run for the next two seasons. The 6-foot-5, 313-pound lineman is ranked as one of the top centers in the country. Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is on record for raving about his communication with Myers, which means he is likely a smart football player.
In terms of production on the field, Myers has been durable for Ohio State, playing in over 900 offensive snaps last year. He was the main cog in helping running back J.K. Dobbins became the first OSU running back to rush over 2,000 yards in 2019. Between Dobbins and Fields, the two rushed for 51 total touchdowns. If the Steelers want to go the protection route, Myers could be an easy choice late in the first round.
