Today, the NASCAR cup series will be racing at the Roval in Charlotte, N.C. The Roval is a 2.28-mile track that is a half road and half speedway course. This track is in its third year of being on the NASCAR cup series schedule. It has also been scheduled every year as a cut-off race in the second round of the playoffs which makes it a very important race.
Preview
This race has always been action-packed. In the first year, Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. wrecked each other on the final turn, so Ryan Blaney could win the inaugural race. Last season Chase Elliott crashed into the wall only to come back and win the race. With two great races at Roval, so many things can happen this time around. Unfortunately, there is an 80 percent chance of rain in the forecast which means that we could see rain tires being used unless it rains so much that there are puddles, which would put the race of happening today in jeopardy.
This race is the final one of the Round of 12. After this race, we will be down to eight drivers eligible for the championship. The playoff situation heading into today’s race is with Kurt Busch’s win at Las Vegas, Denny Hamlin’s win at Talladega, and Kevin Harvick’s points, they have clinched three of the eight spots for the next round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, Elliott, Truex, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Alex Bowman are all above the cut off line. However, they are not safe as an early wreck or a bad day could cause one of the four drivers at the bottom cut off line can steal a spot and advance into the next round.
The bottom four drivers under the cut off line are Kyle Busch (2019 NASCAR cup series champion), Clint Bowyer, who is retiring at seasons end to move into the booth for Fox, Aric Almirola, and Austin Dillon. The Bank of America 400 is set to take place at 2:30 P.M. est on Sunday and can be seen live on NBC.
