Every year there is a guy who drops to a team in the later rounds who comes out to be phenomenal. Players such as Tom Brady, Shannon Sharpe, and Terrell Davis were all drafted past round four. These are 5 players the Browns could try for in the draft from round 4 and on.
1. Chase Hansen, OLB, Utah
Chase was a safety for the first 3 years of college before he made the change to linebacker for his senior year. At linebacker, he had 70 tackles, 5 sacks and 2 interceptions with 1 of the picks going for 6. I think he will be a very solid pick in the fourth or fifth round because he is a very good coverage linebacker who can give a boost to our pass defense who ranked twentieth in the league. One downside is his aggressiveness but, he can be taught not to jump on play action as fast as he does.
2. Saivion Smith, CB, Alabama
Smith was an Alabama corner who lost his spot to Trevon Diggs which puts him at the position he will be drafted. When Diggs got hurt he came in and got 60 tackles, 3 interceptions, with 5 passes defended. He is a supreme lockdown corner who can hit harder than some linebackers in the league. My comparison is a Denzel Ward coming out of college. He could easily be in the second or third round if he had more footage, but he should be a beast for a team that picks him and I hope the Browns have the opportunity to get him.
3. Gary Jennings, WR, West Virginia
Gary Jennings is a fast and versatile receiver who has been overshadowed by the number one receiver David Sills. Jennings caught 54 passes for 917 yards and 13 touchdowns in his final season as a mountaineer. Now if the Browns don’t go big with wide receivers Hakeem Butler or fellow mountaineer David Sills, Jennings will be a good target for the fourth or fifth round. In big-time situations, it seemed that Grier would find Jennings open or in double coverage deep where he caught it for long gains. With Baker Mayfield, a receiver who can make big plays can help him in big game situations.
4. Daniel Wise, DT, Kansas
Overshadowed by a notorious team, Daniel Wise could be a second-round prospect with his size matched up with his speed. Daniel Wise had 34 tackles with 12.5 for a loss and 5 sacks in 2018. At the point of attack, Wise can beat you with strength or with his speed. His playstyle reminds me of an early Aaron Donald because he plays big but can run a quarterback down on a scramble. Pairing him up with Ogunjobi, Garrett and Avery will give him an opportunity to take on one on ones and destroy the lineman in front of him. The place where he will be picked is fourth or fifth round and maybe later with all of the Defensive Tackle prospects.
5. David Long, OLB/DE, West Virginia
David Long was a monster throughout his college career. Starting as a freshman with 65 tackles all the way up to his last year where he had 111 tackles with 19 for a loss, eight sacks, one forced fumble and four passes broken up. His nickname was Mr. Stealth because it seemed like he would sneak into the backfield on every play. With stats like he has had and being a captain for a division one football team, you would think he would go in the first three rounds, but it seems like he is under the radar. For the Browns, this could be their chance at watching a great player fall into their hands. He could go in and out with Avery and if needed Garrett making a good rotation which nowadays seems like every good defensive team does. He would help the run defense dramatically which could make this defense elite.
