3 Burning Questions: New York Giants

It’s that time of year again. Here are three burning questions for the New York Giants.

Does Barkley still belong in the conversation of top running backs?

Last season, running back Saquon Barkley was slowed most of the year due to a high ankle sprain and its lingering effects. In the last handful of games, he finally got back to the rookie season form that made him a top-five pick in many fantasy drafts a season ago.

Will he truly be able to retain that form and maintain it throughout this season? There’s a lot of unknowns surrounding Barkley ahead of a critical 2020 season.

What can be expected from Daniel Jones in Year 2?

It’s never an easy task for any quarterback to take over for a two-time Super Bowl Champion and perennial fan favorite. It’s even tougher doing that as a rookie

While Daniel Jones was far from flawless, the Giants looked like they made the right choice for Eli Manning‘s successor. Jones took his share of lumps while under center but also showed major upside heading into Year 2. With the chemistry he built last season with fellow rookie Darius Slayton, as well as Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram, Jones has all the supporting pieces in place to be successful.

New head coach Joe Judge and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will tailor the playbook around Jones and his strengths and continue to develop the young signal-caller. This season will go a long way to determine if Jones is the long-term solution.

Did they do enough to address defensive holes?

Second only to Barkley being injured, the biggest detriment against this team last season was the defense not being able to keep the offense in the game. Former Packers linebacker Blake Martinez and former Panthers cornerback James Bradberry were solid free agent additions.

The DeAndre Baker issue will have an impact on the secondary as he was improving as last season wore on. If Barkley and the offense are successful, it will shorten the game for this defensive unit.
