It’s that time of year again. Here are three burning questions for the Dallas Cowboys.
Which quarterback will start more games?
The Cowboys and Dak Prescott remain at a stalemate in contact extension talks. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys quickly signed Andy Dalton after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals in a potential security move in case Prescott holds out.
If the stand-off with Prescott continues, the Cowboys could consider moving forward will Dalton under center.
Even if Prescott doesn’t hold out but struggles in Week 1, Dalton could see some reps as the leader of the offense.
In Cincinnati, the 32-year-old Dalton never had an offense like the one that currently exists in Dallas. It would be interesting to see what Dalton could do with more than one or two “complementary” players.
Was Lamb the steal of the draft?
Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup form one of the better one-two punches in the NFL. Still, Cowboys selected former Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round of the draft. Initially, it was widely speculated that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys picked the wide receiver at No. 17 overall in an effort to spite the Eagles, who were hoping that Lamb would fall four more spots.
Whether that contains some truth or not, one thing is clear: when Jerry Jones is involved, you can never be certain.
In all actuality, who would pass up a potential playmaker wide receiver? With Cooper and Gallup garnering extra attention from opposing defenses, the pick of Lamb becomes a no-brainer.
Will the defense be among the best in the league?
The defensive front of the Cowboys now boasts a pair of veteran tackles in former Carolina Panthers teammates Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe. This duo has established a chemistry playing side-by-side. Pass rusher Demarcus Lawrence is another player who gives opposing offensive tackles nightmares.
The linebacking corps features a pair of young stars in Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch. The duo, along with a healthy Sean Lee, could be among the best units in the league.
Seven-year veteran safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will solidify a secondary that was susceptible to giving up big plays in 2019.
With the star power offensively, the defensive doesn’t necessarily need to be lights out, but at the very least it should be better that last season.
